pUK government bond prices have fallen sharply after the chancellor#039;s pre-budget report did little to allay fears about the country#039;s creditworthiness./ppInvestors say Britain is next on ratings agencies#039; radar after Greece#039;s credit status was cut earlier this week and Spain came under their spotlight. Alistair Darling#039;s reaffirmation in the PBR that he would halve the UK deficit was not enough to reassure jittery bond markets and analysts are predicting more price falls for gilts./ppCity analysts say yields on UK government bonds have been out of kilter with the economy for some time and investors were waiting for the PBR before taking short positions in the gilt market./ppMohit Kumar, UK strategist at Deutsche Bank said: There#039;s sovereign concerns. The UK is obviously next in line and seen as the most at-risk sovereign. We don#039;t expect anything to happen [from the ratings agencies] before an election but still it#039;s at risk and the market knows that./ppYields, which move inversely to prices, had initially slipped back further in the wake of the PBR, given that the chancellor#039;s estimate for Britain#039;s budget deficit this year came in slightly lower than expected at pound;178bn./ppThere was a brief fillip as planned gilt issuance was revised up less than expected. Analysts said the chancellor had failed to come up with a strong enough plan to tackle Britain#039;s record black hole in its public finances and worries intensified today over the government#039;s AAA lender status./ppBond prices slid, with March gilt future contracts down more than a full point. The spread for UK bonds against eurozone bonds jumped to its widest in a year. The concerns about the UK#039;s credit rating follow a cut to Spain#039;s outlook by ratings agency Standard and Poor#039;s yesterday and a downgrade to Greece#039;s debt by Fitch./ppImmediately following Darling#039;s pre-budget speech, bookmaker Paddy Power cut the odds on Britain maintaining its AAA credit rating from 3/1 to just 6/4.In an analysis, published after the PBR, Barclays Capital warned of a long, hard winter for the gilt market. Simon Hayes and Moyeen Islam said: For the gilt market, the PBR will come to be seen as the first chapter of the story that will unfold over the next year: that of the fiscal credibility of the Treasury./ppThe issuance profile remains heavy, and there is little to suggest that the necessary fiscal consolidation is in place./p

pSTAFFORD, Va., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — Healthcare costs are rapidly increasing due to the rapid aging of our population. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that over 60% of fatal falls occur in the home. Additionally, the total cost of falls in 2010 is expected to be between 68 and 100 Billion Dollars. More than 25,000 older adults died due to falls last year. Katharine Graham, former Washington Post Chairman, died as a result of a fall. Most of this cost and loss of life is completely preventable through new fall prevention, fall protection products and safer falls education. Many of these medically significant events include hip fracture, head injury, fear of falling again, broken vertebrae and broken wrist./p

pOver 44 million baby boomers live at home with an elderly, sick parent according to The Caring Alliance. Another 25 million at-risk elderly live alone and unprotected from devastating falls. The current economic conditions have exacerbated these numbers. Since life expectancy has continued to increase, this situation is likely to become even more prevalent. The faller may need to move in with adult children and adult children often have to take time off work to care for at-risk parents. The costs, emotionally and physically, to the person who falls and their families is enormous./p

pMuch of this information is virtually unknown to the general public. Annually, there are approximately 370,000 hip fractures. Head injuries from falls at home are another significant medical cost. Falls are the major cause of 40% of nursing home admissions and subsequent costs to families. Per year, of those admitted to a hospital only about 50% will survive a serious fall. Falls are the leading cause of accidental death and more than 33% of adults 65 and older fall each year. Reductions in healthcare costs are a current concern of all in the government and the effect of falls are a major cost factor./p

This information will be invaluable to seniors and their families. To see fall prevention training and fall protection devices for home, concerned individuals and families may go directly to http://www.SaferFalls.com for senior fall prevention./p

pMr. Devaney#039;s mother died as the result of an unnecessary hip fracture. This loss could have easily been prevented with one of these new devices or education techniques. Numerous lives have already been saved with these clinically proven devices. Many nurses and doctors have commonly requested these new technologies and education be available to the general public. This company has partnered with the leading manufacturers of low cost fall prevention technologies to provide these fall products predominately available only through hospitals and nursing homes to the general public at institutional prices. Some of these devices include Hip Protectors, Fall and Exit Alarms, high impact Fall and Floor Cushions, Fall and Lift Furniture, Bed Safety Guards, Personal Pagers, high impact Bath Mats, Fall Management Socks and Shower Slippers./p
